The Octonauts are a team of adventurers who explore the world’s oceans, rescue aquatic creatures and protect their habitats – from the rainforests of the Amazon to the deepest depths of the Midnight Zone. Captain Barnacles Bear, ex-pirate Kwazii Cat, medic Peso Penguin and the rest of the crew fearlessly dive into action, deploying a fleet of aquatic vehicles, including their Octopus-shaped home-base, the Octopod.
Based on the richly imaginative books by Meomi and beautifully animated by Brown Bag Films, Octonauts combines eye-popping visuals, submersive humor and pulse-quickening action to transport young children into an undersea universe, unlike anything else in pre-school TV. The series is classic sci-fi, where our heroes encounter real undersea creatures that are just as exciting and unusual as make-believe aliens – it’s Star Trek meets Jacques Cousteau for kids!
Octonauts aspires to present scientists as action heroes and the pursuit of scientific inquiry as the greatest of all adventures. With an educational curriculum overseen by working scientists from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and an ongoing partnership with NOAA, Octonauts has taught kids all over the world (as well as parents) hundreds of “strange but true” facts about our blue planet and the marine creatures that call it home: the fundamentals of symbiosis, the environmental impact of invasive species, the unique reproductive processes of seahorses and, of course, how sardines maintain buoyancy by burping and how herring communicate via flatulence. The ultimate goal of Octonauts is to inspire kids to think more critically and imaginatively about their planet, because you can’t truly care about something until you learn about it!
